Sponza Palace
This splendid palace, is said to be one of the most beautiful in this city.
It was the place that all of the trading routes came into the Dubrovnik Republic —
it was the customs house used to collect taxes on the trade they conducted all over Europe.
Citizens of Dubrovnik knew how to create an appropriate business environment,
proving their wealth and culture by building this luxurious palace. Today,
the State Archives are housed in the Sponza Palace.
The documents are dated from 12th century.
While under seige during the recent war with the Serbs,
Dubrovnik was shelled from the hill above. Much of the Old Town was destroyed.
Roofs were broken, and many buildings were burned.

Caffebar Mirage ~ 1825
Established in 1825 is quite young by European standards.
The wall of the caffebar is lined with black high-boy coctail tables
and orange chairs. A glass ash tray graces each table.
Not all streets are as wide as the Stradun.
