Day 8: Monday, April 18, 2005
|
11:18 AM — Maria, our guide gathers tour group Green 10 so she can explain the pineapple growing process.
|
They gather and wait for the slow pokes.
It takes two years from the time they plant this tiny plant.
They plant 1000 plants in each greenhouse.
The Azores has a temperate, maritime climate characterised by agreeable temperatures with small average annual variance. The temperature varies from an average low of about 55ºF (13ºC) in the winter to an average high 73ºF (23ºC). Light cloud cover is common throughout the year. This is too cool to grow pineapple in the fields, so they use greenhouses.
